Homerite Windows and Doors opens WAYNESBORO store
Nicholas Cecco is joined by his wife, Teresa, and daughter, Sidonia, as he cuts the ribbon at the grand opening of HomeRite, his new business in downtown Waynesboro.
WAYNESBORO — Just in time for the spring home improvement season, a new business has opened on West Main Street specializing in windows and doors.
Nicholas Cecco, who owns a HomeRite Windows and Doors franchise in Harrisburg, opened his new satellite office in Waynesboro this month so he can be closer to his home and family, who also help him with his business.
Cecco began his career in windows eight years ago as a sales representative for MI Windows and Doors, a nationwide manufacturer with a plant in northern Dauphin County. He sold MI products for four years before starting his first installation business in Frederick. Two years ago he sold that business to his partner and opened his HomeRite Windows and Doors franchise in Harrisburg.
MI Windows and Doors, which is a family-owned business more than 60 years old, primarily sold its products to building material suppliers and distributors. MI partnered with HomeRite Windows and Doors as a franchise system to sell directly to homeowners. It was a perfect fit for Cecco because he knew the MI product line from selling it for several years.
“We buy directly from our manufacturer, so there is no middle man,” Cecco said. He said MI Windows and Doors has a reputation of staying ahead of the curve by manufacturing windows that far exceed energy requirements.
He concentrates on four lines of windows, all of which meet the qualifications for the federal tax credit. A lifetime limited warranty provides protection against manufacturer’s defects and covers the installation, parts and pieces and seal failures for as long as you own your home. Cecco also has a lifetime glass breakage warranty for the life of the product.
“We like to see ourselves in the middle. We offer a high quality product at an affordable price. They are not only energy efficient, but maintenance free,” he says. “We take a lot of pride in our installations. We use floor coverings and we clean and vacuum when we’re finished. When we’re done, you will have new windows like they were originally meant to be there and the work area will be spotless when we leave.” He has three two-man installation crews. In addition to replacement vinyl windows and entry doors, HomeRite also offers patio and sliding doors, basement windows, double-hung windows and bay and bow windows.
Cecco, who is licensed in Pennsylvania and Maryland, is also an approved contractor for Keystone HELP, a state energy program available for Pennsylvania residents that offers low-interest loans to those who qualify. The lower rates can save consumers thousands of dollars over the life of the loan, further enhance the energy savings from the improvements being made and minimize out-of-pocket costs. Keystone HELP loans are fast and simple; most applications are approved within hours.
“I’m fortunate to have all of central Pennsylvania as my licensed territory,” he said, adding there is a lot of business opportunity for him here. “I wanted to set up shop in the local community so I could be near my family.” He works from Harrisburg south including Carlisle, Shippensburg, Chambersburg and Greencastle and also in Maryland.
A lot of people are taking advantage of the tax credits, he said. With the high cost of energy — both heating and cooling — today’s windows can really make a difference. They also add to the resale value of a property. In addition to selling and installing for homeowners, Cecco also has packages available for landlords and for property renovators. Cecco and his wife, Teresa, have a 3-year-old daughter named Sidonia, and their son, Dominick, will be born next month. The couple lives in Smithsburg, but he chose Waynesboro for his business so he could be closer to his family. His parents, Jeff and Roxanne Cecco, are also from Waynesboro and have been a big help with his business. They help cover office hours and worked on setting up the showroom. A new display area for doors is being designed.
Cecco, 31, majored in hotel and restaurant managementat Penn State. After`a year in that field, he decided it didn’t fit his lifestyle and he took the sales job at MI Windows and Doors. His showroom is open daily except Sunday, but most of his appointments with clients are in the evenings and Saturdays.
“We do free, no obligation in-home estimates. It usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes,” he said. He will meet with the homeowner and assess the home’s construction, decide the application needed for the best look, measure and write estimates.

To protect adults and children against the harmful lead dust and chips generated because of Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition of lead-based paint, EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under the rule, beginning April 22, 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
